The Avalon Permit Fly doubles as both a crab and a shrimp imitation. This is a super productive permit fly in Cuba, and its been proven all over the Caribbean. The beaded keel serves two purposes, to ensure the hook rides in the correct position and to create a clicking sound associated with the mantis shrimp.
This fly is tied in two options, a lightweight and a heavyweight version. The lightweight version is ideal in lagoons and shallow flats, while the heavyweight version is best in flats that are 4-6 feet in depth (great for finding permit coming in on rays). Both versions are tied with lead dumbbell eyes; the lightweight is a small dumbbell eye, and the heavyweight is a large dumbbell eye.
