Smaller than the standard hen saddle patches, hese feathers are perfect for soft hackle trout flies and summer steelhead flies. The speckled hen patch is a great substitute for partridge. I makes wonderful legs on Mike Mercers Poxyback nymph series of flies as well as Barr''s Copper John
I gave this a middle of the road rating because of the two hen saddles I purchased one is a beautiful speckled gray with a plethora of usable feathers and one is a very poorly marked “speckled “ brown with virtually no speckling.
There are a dozen, at most, usable feathers on the entire saddle
I usually have good luck ordering items on line, but this time I got burned. There’s eight bucks I might as well thrown out the car window as I drove down the road.
Since I can’t trust Blue Quill Angler to use a discerning fly tyer’s eye when selecting products, I will just have to stop buying from them.
