These Whiting Farms American Hen Saddles have a greater density of web than any other type of hen saddle, creating an almost velvety texture with a solid silhouette. The generous breadth and length of the feathers provides greater size and density for those flies that demand it. Yet the quill is not overly large or stiff, and along with only modest taper, allows easy wrapping.
There are several different types of flies you can tie with an American Hen Saddle. Use these feathers for collars, legs, and wings on nymphs and soft hackles. These feathers are also good for streamers, especially matuka and sculpin flies. These are great feathers for pectoral fin imitations. You can also use these saddles for saltwater flies, salmon and steelhead flies, and skirts and tails on popper flies.
